First Shot

Okay first of all, I love blogs, I love to read them and although I am not a talented writer think it'd be fun to blog about something that effects me everyday which is Diabetes. My hope is to connect with other diabetics and share experiences and information to lead healthier lives.

I had my follow up visit with my diabetic doctor yesterday. I meet with a team of medical professionals in a program called the IDEAL clinic. I see a pump nurse, doctor, and dietician every three months. I presented them with a pretty extensive spreadsheet of my latest numbers which revealed my efforts to keep from dropping low in the afternoons and at night. I either run or walk 2-3 miles everyday and since I've been doing that consitently have been fighting lows. I have an insulin pump so they decreased my basal rates considerably. I will now document everything, and send them new sugars in a week. One thing is for sure, every time you make a life style change, your basal and bolus rates will change. Something that surprised me though was the fact my aic was 7.4 which was up from my last visit and I've been a lot more active since then? Go figure, I guess its going to take a more valiant effort to get in better control with the activity level.

Has anyone been using the Omni-Pod successfully?
Is it normal to have 45 carbs before you run only about 2.5 miles? That's what I need so I don't drop low, seems like a lot, but it could be my basal rate is still elevated.
